Our vision is to delight breeders with the bettas selective breeding
A short and true story about betta keeping and breeding
Generating satisfaction with the handling and breeding of bettas is a basic premise for keeping them in captivity. Soon after, and not least for some breeders, is the possibility of exchange or even commercialization. Therefore, breeding bettas is classified as either amateur or professional.
You who are a betta breeder certainly won or acquired your first copies. You began to take a liking to handling, which proved to be therapy in many moments. Your betta must have been in community or individual aquariums.
For you to be visiting us, you may have been interested in breeding it: you bought couples and got the first litter after (possibly) a lot of trial and error. Lack of food for the fry, lack of a calm environment for mating, lack of consistency in handling, cleaning the aquarium and continued feeding. All of these are factors that you’ve certainly noticed in these attempts.
Once you’ve mastered the reproductive management of bettas, you’ll spend a period of time involved in mass breeding bettas, gradually increasing the survival rate over weeks, months, and perhaps years breeding them.
It is possible that you have concluded, as a betta breeder, that random attempts at breeder selection result in fish with aesthetic quality and consistency far below what you had hoped for. Furthermore, it concluded that management for bettas with Superior Genetics and randomly bred bettas has the same workload, time and financial investment.
Superior Genetic Bettas have greater commercial value and replication of their aesthetic beauty over generations, in the same way that occurs in the most diverse animals kept and bred selectively by Man. Selective breeding can provide new strains when desired and directed.
We present to you, breeder or fan of bettas, a complete methodology for selective breeding of bettas. We have already published content on basic management, reproductive management, betta genetics, and betta judgment, and we are continually developing new material.
We invite you to know the content we make available in order to teach everyone how to reach bettas with Superior Genetics, developing exhibitions with solid and well-founded judgments, that can be used for the standards that exist worldwide without complication, but objectivity and consistency.
Welcome to the Betta Project – A DNA Experience!
We classify the betta experience as follow:
The basic bettas management deals precisely with the techniques, or routines, that must be performed to maintain the domesticated specimen: disease control, physical-chemical parameters of water, food and everything related to the animal’s life.
The reproductive management corresponds to the points to be observed and how to act for the specimens to reproduce. Without the correct management by the breeder, the chances of success are drastically reduced: loss of breeding stock (aggressive cut), absence of spawning and loss of fry, for not knowing how to promote their growth to adulthood.
The study of betta genetics, essential for obtaining specimens with higher genetic quality, results in higher success rates when two matrices reproduce: it allows predicting, through Punnett Framework (Reginald Punnett, 1900s), the probabilities of occurrence of each visual characteristic (colors, arrangement of colors and shapes) inherited from the matrices.
Bettas judgment techniques are used in the evaluation of the specimens in terms of colors, color arrangement and formats, aiming at the selection of bettas for specialized exhibitions or exchange / sale of matrices.
Specialized betta exhibitions are the culmination of the breeding process, since they subject breeding stock to standardized judgments, promoting healthy competition between betta breeders, rewarding those fish with the greatest stable aesthetic beauty.
